The R 1300 R marks a significant step forward for BMW’s boxer roadster lineup in 2026. The completely redesigned 1,300 cc ShiftCam boxer produces 145 hp and an impressive 149 Nm, responds instantly to throttle input, and combines effortless pulling power with an eagerness to rev. Thanks to its lighter chassis and more centralized mass, the large BMW feels noticeably more agile than its predecessor.

On twisty backroads, the R 1300 R impresses with precise turn-in, excellent stability, and outstanding feedback. Its strengths include the memorable boxer engine, the low-maintenance shaft drive, and the comprehensive electronics package, including the optional Automated Shift Assistant.

Weaknesses remain the extensive list of optional extras and the comparatively high weight when measured against more aggressively focused naked bikes. Its key competitors include the KTM 1390 Super Duke GT, Ducati Streetfighter V2, Yamaha MT-10 (available only on the used market), and Kawasaki Z H2.
