Engine: Yamaha 450 Single—19 hp Street-Legal, Approx. 58 hp Unrestricted, Fantic Rally Gearing

450 cc, liquid-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder engine, DOHC with twin overhead camshafts, four valves, fuel injection. The Yamaha engine is technically related to the WR450F. Fantic’s cooperation partner Yamaha supplies the frame, suspension, and engine to Italy, where Fantic assembles and extensively develops the motorcycle further.

Street homologation is 14 kW / 19 hp—the Euro 5 specification for public-road use. Unrestricted, in the Racing configuration that can be achieved through de-restriction, output is approximately 58 hp. That is the concept: a racing engine that clears the legal hurdle of street homologation without abandoning its origins.

Fantic has extensively modified the Rally’s gearing. All gears have been made taller and the final-drive ratio lengthened, with a 48-tooth rear sprocket instead of 50 teeth. That is rally logic. On long, high-speed gravel sections, you do not want short motocross gearing that runs out of revs in fourth gear. You want to cruise comfortably at 100–130 km/h in fifth or sixth. Throttle response is smooth and power delivery is very linear and predictable. The Arrow exhaust system on the Rally version optimizes the midrange.

Suspension: Fully Adjustable KYB, 310 mm Front, 300 mm Rear—Dakar Geometry for the Road

The suspension is the technical heart of the XEF Rally. Up front is a fully adjustable KYB fork with compression, rebound, and preload adjustment and 310 mm of travel. That is Enduro World Championship territory—far more than any adventure motorcycle in this price class. At the rear is a fully adjustable KYB monoshock with 300 mm of travel.

The suspension is specifically calibrated for rally use: firmer than the XEF 450 enduro version and designed for high speeds over rough terrain. The result is composed handling at high speed on gravel tracks, stability over jumps, and precise steering even with the motorcycle carrying a load.

The front brake uses an upgraded 300 mm disc compared with the standard XEF 450 enduro for greater braking performance at high speeds. A hydraulic steering damper comes standard—essential for high-speed sections. The frame is an aluminum twin-spar design developed from the Yamaha base. Wheel sizes are 21 inches front and 18 inches rear—the dimensions used in the major desert rallies—with wire-spoke wheels.

Fuel Tank and Navigation: 30 Liters in Three Chambers, 7-Inch Android RallyScreen, Roadbook Standard

The 30-liter fuel tank is the XEF Rally’s unique selling point among street-legal production motorcycles. It consists of three sections. Side tanks provide aerodynamic protection and balanced mass distribution, while a central tank sits beneath the seat to keep the center of gravity low.

With approximately 58 hp in unrestricted form and the taller rally gearing, this provides a realistic range of more than 400 km at cruising speed—Dakar-capable. Mass distribution is designed so that handling remains precise even as the fuel tanks empty.

The navigation tower comes from the factory with a 7-inch RallyScreen. It runs the Android operating system, has touchscreen functionality, and is compatible with all common navigation apps, including Google Maps, GPX tracks, and rally-roadbook apps. Fantic supplies its own Rally app with roadbook functionality. Waypoints can be uploaded and used for navigation just as they are in the Dakar.

Handlebar controls with four switches on each side allow touchless operation. You can advance to the next waypoint or synchronize the tripmeter without taking your hands off the bars. There is a Plexiglas protective cover for the roadbook mount, and two Tripmaster positions are prepared as standard.

Ergonomics: 955 mm Seat Height, Rally Riding Position, Windscreen Standard—Tall Riders Preferred

A 955 mm seat height is genuine rally territory. For riders under 1.75 meters, it is a challenge. But the typical rally riding position is predominantly standing anyway. Standing on the footpegs gives the rider optimum control over the motorcycle while the body itself helps absorb impacts.

Seated, the riding position is upright and far forward. The handlebar is positioned to allow a relaxed posture with a slight forward lean of the upper body. The side-mounted fuel reservoirs interfere surprisingly little when standing and allow good contact with the motorcycle.

A tall rally-style windscreen comes standard, protecting the rider from wind at higher speeds while supporting the RallyScreen tower. The oil cooler is mounted at the front for maximum airflow, important for reliable lubrication during long desert stages. A reinforced oil filter with an auxiliary reservoir also comes standard. The 5 mm carbon-Kevlar skid plate protects the engine, fuel tanks, and exhaust against impacts.

Handling: 140 kg Dry—Surprisingly Light for a Rally Bike With a 30-Liter Tank

140 kg dry. That is the figure that separates the XEF Rally from the competition in its segment. BMW R 1300 GS Adventure: 268 kg. Husqvarna Norden 901: 204 kg. Compared with direct rally competitors such as Hero Motorsports rally-kit motorcycles or privateer competition bikes, the Fantic is in a similar range.

The difference is that the low weight is combined with a 30-liter fuel tank, which obviously adds considerable mass when full. But because of the way that mass is distributed, the motorcycle remains surprisingly manageable even with a full fuel load.

The KYB suspension keeps the compact rally bike composed at high speeds over rough terrain. In trials-like sections, the Fantic disguises its dimensions thanks to excellent balance. The Yamaha single-cylinder engine is beyond reproach: smooth throttle response and predictable power delivery. The brakes remain temperature-resistant.

This is a motorcycle for experienced off-road riders. The 955 mm seat height and suspension setup are not configured for beginners.

Equipment: World-Class Rally-Raid Package Standard—No Other Production Motorcycle Offers It

Standard equipment includes the Yamaha 450 DOHC engine, fully adjustable KYB suspension with 310/300 mm of travel, 30-liter three-piece fuel tank, 7-inch RallyScreen with Android, GPS, and roadbook app, roadbook mount with Plexiglas protection, two Tripmaster positions, hydraulic steering damper, Arrow exhaust, 300 mm front brake disc, 5 mm carbon-Kevlar skid plate, reinforced oil filter with auxiliary reservoir, oil cooler, tall windscreen, Fantic Rally handlebar controls with eight switches—four per side—LED lighting, and Euro 5 street homologation.

One note: the Rally version differs from the limited XEF 450 Rally Factory, which gets additional CNC components, a titanium Arrow exhaust, and specific racing instrumentation. The standard Rally uses black rather than red triple clamps and hubs, as well as different lettering on the side panels.

The color scheme is Red/White/Blue in Dakar heritage style, redesigned for MY2026 with a chrome base.

Costs: Approx. €16,690 Including Additional Charges—No Direct Competitor for the Complete Package

Approximately €16,690 including additional charges. Fantic has not published an official German MSRP for the XEF 450 Rally, so all prices are dealer figures and may vary. The XEF 450 Rally Factory, limited to 50 examples, is considerably more expensive.

There is no true direct market competitor—no other street-legal production motorcycle comes from the factory with a 30-liter tank, Dakar-spec suspension, and a 7-inch navigation system. The next category consists of specialized privateer rally bikes without street homologation or fully equipped adventure motorcycles such as the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure and Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports. But those follow a different philosophy: more touring comfort, less racing.

Service intervals are every 10,000 km. Warranty is two years. Fantic’s dealer network in Germany is smaller than those of mainstream adventure-bike brands, so check dealer and service coverage before buying.

Verdict

The Fantic XEF 450 Rally is not an everyday motorcycle. It is a production bike with street homologation that delivers genuine rally-raid character. A 30-liter tank, 7-inch RallyScreen, roadbook navigation, KYB suspension with 310 mm of front travel, and 140 kg dry weight—there is nothing else like it on the market.

For riders who want to ride rally raids, are considering genuine events, or simply want to spend weekends hammering along gravel tracks, this is the most interesting offering currently available.
