Review Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade (2026)

217 hp, Twin TBW, MotoGP Aerodynamics—the Most Uncompromising Street Fireblade Ever

The CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade is the result of direct HRC development: 999 cc, 217 hp at 14,000 rpm, Twin Throttle By Wire with separate control for each cylinder pair—a world first in series production—6-axis IMU, three-level Cornering ABS, Launch Control, three-level HESD, three-level Quickshifter, winglets with 10 percent less yaw moment, and Bridgestone RS11 tires standard. 200 kg fully fueled. The SP version adds Öhlins Spool-Valve electronic suspension, Brembo Stylema R, and an Akrapovič titanium muffler.

As of: April 10, 2026 | Tested model: Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade (2026) | Price: €26,129 base / €30,309 SP

Engine: 217 hp, Twin Throttle By Wire, Titanium Connecting Rods, 13.6:1 Compression—a Honda Production First

999 cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled inline-four, 16 valves, PGM-FI. Output is 159.5 kW / 217 hp at 14,000 rpm, with 113 Nm at 12,000 rpm. Compression ratio is 13.6:1.

Titanium connecting rods and forged A2618 aluminum pistons use the same material as the MotoGP RC213V. Despite their larger diameter, the pistons are approximately 5 percent lighter than standard pistons. That reduces inertia and makes the extreme engine speeds possible.

The airbox, intake ports, and cylinder head have been revised for greater midrange performance.

Twin Throttle By Wire is a world first in Honda series production. The system controls each cylinder pair separately, allowing even more precise throttle response and improved engine braking compared with a conventional TBW system.

A slipper clutch comes standard. A Quickshifter with blipper, adjustable through three levels, is also standard. Launch Control comes standard, as does a lightweight lithium-ion battery.

The exhaust note rises linearly and dramatically with engine speed—Honda describes the sound as that of a World Superbike machine.

Stationary noise is 95 dB(A), exactly at Tyrol’s 95 dB(A) riding-ban threshold.

Suspension: Fully Adjustable 43 mm SHOWA, Brembo Stylema Up Front, 6-Axis IMU, Three-Level Cornering ABS, Three-Level HESD

The base model uses a 43 mm SHOWA SFF-BP upside-down fork, fully adjustable for spring preload, rebound, and compression damping, with 120 mm of travel.

At the rear is a SHOWA monoshock with Pro-Link, also fully adjustable, with 137 mm of travel.

Up front are dual 330 mm discs with radially mounted Brembo Stylema four-piston monobloc calipers. At the rear is a 220 mm disc with a Brembo two-piston caliper.

Three-level Cornering ABS—Race, Track, Standard—comes standard. HESD, Honda Electronic Steering Damper, is electronically adjustable through three levels as standard.

Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street RS11 tires come standard—a racing-oriented tire for both track and street use.

The standard 6-axis IMU controls HSTC, Wheelie Control, Rear-Lift Control, and the three-level Cornering ABS.

The aluminum twin-spar frame is combined with a longer swingarm than the predecessor for improved traction.

New winglets reduce yaw moment by 10 percent while maintaining the same downforce. In practical terms, the front tire stays on the ideal line during corner entry and braking without compromising handling at high speed.

Wheelbase is 1,450 mm on the base model and 1,455 mm on the SP.

The 5-inch TFT display includes rider-weight input, allowing the system to calculate recommended front and rear spring-preload settings automatically.

SP Version: Öhlins Spool-Valve Electronic Suspension, Brembo Stylema R, Akrapovič Titanium

The SP version deliberately replaces the key chassis components with the best available production technology.

Up front is a 43 mm Öhlins S-EC3.0 (SV) NPX fork, electronically adjustable and using a pressurized damping system with Spool-Valve technology, with 125 mm of travel.

At the rear is an electronically adjustable Öhlins TTX36 (SV) shock with Spool-Valve technology and 143 mm of travel.

The Spool-Valve system is a further development of conventional electronically adjustable suspension. It provides lower internal friction and more precise response to road-surface irregularities.

Up front, Brembo Stylema R four-piston monobloc calipers replace the standard Stylema units and provide greater resistance to brake fade. A Brembo master cylinder and front brake lever also come standard.

The Akrapovič titanium muffler was jointly developed with Akrapovič. Titanium reduces weight and mass, while a special valve provides more torque at low rpm and more horsepower at the top end.

The SP weighs 201 kg fully fueled.

The SP Carbon Edition gets a full carbon-fiber fairing and is limited to 300 examples in Europe, each with an individually numbered aluminum plaque.

Ergonomics: 830 mm Seat Height, Extreme Racing Position, 5-Inch TFT With Rider-Weight Input—Not an Everyday Motorcycle

Seat height is 830 mm.

The riding position is uncompromisingly race-oriented: low clip-ons, maximum forward lean, high tail section. This is the highest level of sporting ergonomics Honda offers on a production motorcycle.

The Fireblade is not built for commuting or touring. It is designed for sport riders on the racetrack and committed riders on winding backroads.

The 5-inch TFT display introduces a new function: riders can enter their body weight, from which the system automatically calculates the optimum recommended spring-preload settings front and rear.

Fuel capacity is 16.1 liters, with a range of approximately 280 km at a combined consumption of around 5.8 L/100 km.

2026 colors are Grand Prix Red, CBR Tricolour, and Matte Ballistic Black Metallic.

Handling: 200 kg Fully Fueled, 217 hp—for Experienced Riders; World-Class on the Racetrack

At 200 kg fully fueled and 217 hp, the Fireblade offers the best power-to-weight ratio Honda currently sells for street use.

The Fireblade was not developed solely for the road. The SP version has direct links to Honda’s racing program.

The comprehensive electronics package makes the performance manageable. Standard mode noticeably softens the delivery, while Race mode is designed for full-throttle use. The IMU controls all systems in real time, and the three-level Cornering ABS allows experienced riders to reduce the intervention threshold in Race mode.

Who is the Fireblade for?

Riders with sufficient experience handling 200-plus-horsepower motorcycles who want to extract the maximum from a street-legal supersport machine—on the racetrack as well as on backroads.

It is not a beginner’s motorcycle, not an everyday motorcycle, and not a compromise.

Costs: €26,129 Base / €30,309 SP—An Expensive Entry Into the 200-Plus-hp Supersport Class

Direct competitors include the Ducati Panigale V4 at almost €26,000 with 214 hp, the BMW S 1000 RR at more than €21,000 with 210 hp, and the Aprilia RSV4 at approximately €21,999 with 220 hp.

Within this group, the Fireblade is among the most expensive points of entry.

The standard warranty is two years with unlimited mileage. A paid extension through Honda GarantiePlus is available.

Verdict

The Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade is the most uncompromising production motorcycle Honda has ever built: 217 hp, Twin TBW as a world first, a complete IMU-controlled electronics package, and Bridgestone RS11 tires standard—for more than €26,000.

If you want the best Honda offers in series production, choose the SP with Öhlins Spool-Valve suspension, Brembo Stylema R, and Akrapovič titanium.

The Fireblade is not a compromise.

If you are looking for compromises, buy a different motorcycle.
