Review Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition (2026)
Factory-Ready for Whatever Comes Next
The Expedition is not the better Norden 901. It is the fully equipped one. WP XPLOR 48 mm fork instead of the standard model’s 43 mm unit, 240 mm of suspension travel at both ends, 36 liters of soft luggage, a 4 mm aluminum engine guard, tall touring windshield, center stand, heated grips, heated seat, and Explorer riding mode with nine-level traction control. Everything comes from the factory—no accessory catalog required. 91 dB(A), Tyrol-compliant. Approximately €17,494 plus €495 in additional charges. For riders who simply want to load up and go.
As of: July 17, 2026 | Model: Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition (2026; 889 cc parallel twin; fully equipped Adventure Touring; Category A license) | Manufacturer: Husqvarna Motorcycles GmbH, Mattighofen, Austria; Pierer Mobility / Bajaj Auto | Price in Germany: €17,494 plus €495 in additional charges | Stationary noise: 91 dB(A), Tyrol-compliant | Warranty: 4 years, Husqvarna standard
There is one type of motorcyclist who spends six months after buying a bike working through accessory catalogs and ordering every component individually to tailor the motorcycle to a particular idea of travel. Then there is another type: buy the motorcycle, load the luggage, and ride away. The Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition is built for the second type.
After its first test in 2023, motorradtest.de summed it up neatly: “A wonderful addition to the standard Norden 901. More off-road, more touring, and significantly better equipped for a manageable premium.” Apart from hard cases, you can largely ignore the accessory catalog. That is the Expedition’s promise: no need to configure it afterward.
What the Expedition Has That the Standard Norden Does Not
The Expedition gets a WP XPLOR 48 mm USD fork, compared with 43 mm on the standard Norden. That means 5 mm more inner-tube diameter—stronger, stiffer, and better suited to heavy loads and demanding off-road riding. Front suspension travel is 240 mm, compared with 220 mm on the standard model, while rear travel is 240 mm instead of 225 mm. According to MOTORRAD, the Expedition’s new rear shock is also higher in quality than the standard Norden’s base unit. More suspension travel plus a stronger fork means greater reserves off-road and under heavy loads.
Standard equipment also includes 36 liters of soft luggage with mounting hardware, a tall touring windshield that is not height-adjustable— but that lack of adjustability is a criticism noted by motorradtest.de—a 4 mm aluminum engine guard that extends higher at the front than the standard Norden’s protection and shields both engine and muffler, a center stand, heated grips, heated seat, Explorer riding mode with nine-level traction control that can be adjusted individually even while riding, Wheelie Control that can be set to zero, and a Connectivity Unit.
Explorer Mode: The Expedition’s Electronics
Explorer riding mode is exclusive to the Expedition and forms the electronic core of its off-road capability. It allows traction control to be freely adjusted from level 1 to 9, even while riding and without stopping. Move from pavement to gravel and you can set TC to level 7 and keep going. If you want maximum rear-wheel control off-road, set it to 0. With Wheelie Control deactivated, the Expedition also allows the front wheel to be lifted in the dirt. A 1000PS test in South Africa put the system through sand and steep, rocky terrain; even minor tip-overs caused no damage thanks to the engine protection.
36 Liters of Soft Luggage: What Is Included—and What Is Missing
Thirty-six liters of soft luggage comes standard. That is enough for a ten-day trip with a tent and sleeping bag—if you know how to pack. What is not included is hard luggage. motorradtest.de explicitly recommends buying it separately. That is the only area where the Expedition is not completely finished. Husqvarna hard cases fit the factory-installed mounting system, and purchasing them through the dealer is recommended.
214.5 kg Dry: 10.5 kg More Than the Standard Norden
Dry weight is 214.5 kg, 10.5 kg more than the standard Norden 901. The additional weight comes from the center stand, luggage racks, and heavier aluminum engine guard. Ready to ride with 19 liters of fuel, the Expedition weighs approximately 230 kg. For context, that is lighter than the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special at 258 kg and heavier than the KTM 390 Adventure R at 176 kg. For a fully equipped 900 cc adventure bike, approximately 230 kg ready to ride is acceptable.
91 dB(A) and Approximately €18,000
At 91 dB(A), stationary noise is identical to the standard Norden and Tyrol-compliant. The price is €17,494 plus €495 in additional charges, putting the total at almost €18,000. This is approximately €1,800 more than the standard Norden. In return, the Expedition provides tangible value: 48 mm WP XPLOR suspension, 15–20 mm more suspension travel, 36 liters of soft luggage, a 4 mm aluminum engine guard, heated grips, heated seat, center stand, and Explorer mode. That is certainly not a bad package.
Verdict
The Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition is the Norden for riders who do not want to configure the motorcycle after buying it. WP XPLOR 48 mm fork, 240 mm of suspension travel, 36 liters of soft luggage, engine protection, heated grips, heated seat, Explorer mode, and center stand. 91 dB(A). Approximately €18,000 including additional charges. The 1000PS South Africa test found it proven on sand, gravel, and steep rocky terrain. The only thing you still buy yourself is the hard luggage.
