The 2026 Pursuit Dark Horse 112 update is cosmetic: new color options including Black Smoke, Heavy Metal, and new combinations with Championship Gold accents, plus updated graphics. Engine, chassis, electronics, and equipment are technically identical to the 2025 model, which itself represented the most comprehensive update to the Pursuit line to date. If you own a 2025 Pursuit Dark Horse 112, the 2026 model is the same motorcycle in new colors.

Pursuit vs. Challenger: Same Engine, Different Mission

The Indian Pursuit is based on the Challenger platform and shares its PowerPlus 112 engine, cast-aluminum frame, USD fork, and Brembo brakes. What separates the Pursuit from the Challenger is the mission. The Challenger is the sporty bagger for day rides and weekend trips. The Pursuit is the long-distance touring motorcycle. You see it in the frame-mounted fairing with greater wind protection, the standard removable top case with integrated passenger backrest, the FOX rear shock with electronic adjustment through RIDE COMMAND, the ClimaCommand seat, and the PowerBand 600-watt audio system—all focused on long-distance comfort.

Buy the Pursuit if you want a motorcycle for multi-day trips, not just a Sunday ride. If sporty riding is your priority and you do not need touring comfort, buy the Challenger. If you want both, buy the Pursuit and remove the top case when you do not need it.

Engine: PowerPlus 112—Identical to Challenger and Chieftain

1,834 cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, four valves per cylinder, 122 hp in German specification, 181 Nm at 3,600 rpm, with rear-cylinder deactivation when the motorcycle is stationary for greater comfort in city traffic and while waiting. Six-speed transmission, belt final drive, Euro 5+. Power delivery remains consistent to 5,500 rpm, with no flat spots between corners. Fuel consumption is approximately 6.5 L/100 km; the 22.7-liter tank provides more than 350 km of range.

Chassis: FOX Rear Shock, USD Fork, Brembo

Up front is a 43 mm USD fork with SmartLean technology, including lean-angle-sensitive ABS and traction control, combined with a cast-aluminum frame that is lighter than a steel frame and stiffer in load distribution. At the rear is a FOX shock with electronically adjustable preload—the decisive difference from the Chieftain PowerPlus, which uses a standard monoshock.

Adjustment is handled through the RIDE COMMAND display without tools: solo, solo with luggage, two-up, or two-up with luggage. Each configuration can be selected with a few button presses. Radially mounted Brembo front calipers work with dual 320 mm semi-floating discs; the rear uses a 298 mm disc. SmartLean ABS and linked braking come standard.

Ergonomics: Touring Position for Long Distances

Seat height is approximately 670 mm. The frame-mounted fairing provides broad wind protection, while the windshield is electrically adjustable from the handlebar without taking a hand off the controls. The ClimaCommand seat is the equipment highlight: heating and cooling for both rider and passenger, adjustable through tactile buttons in the seat or through the RIDE COMMAND display. On a 2,000 km trip, this can make the difference between a pleasant journey and an exhausting one.

Heated grips come standard. The passenger seat, with the integrated backrest in the top case, is considerably more comfortable for long two-up stretches than on most cruiser-based alternatives.

Storage: More Than 140 Liters

More than 140 liters of weatherproof, remote-locking storage comes from the remote-locking side cases, lockable quick-release top case with integrated passenger backrest, and additional compartments in the lower fairing sections. The top case can be removed in a few steps for solo riding, significantly changing the motorcycle’s profile. More than 140 liters exceeds most touring motorcycles in this class and is more than double the luggage capacity of the Harley-Davidson Road Glide without a top case.

Audio System: 600 Watts Optional

The source does not specify the output of the standard audio system. The optional PowerBand system uses six 100-watt speakers for 600 watts of total output with a dynamic equalizer—the most powerful audio system Indian installs on a production model. At 120 km/h on the highway, with a helmet and wind noise, 600 watts is not necessarily excessive; it is what keeps the system clearly audible. The 7-inch RIDE COMMAND display integrates Apple CarPlay, GPS navigation, Bluetooth, and vehicle information.

Stationary Noise and Tyrol: 91 dB(A)

The Indian Pursuit Dark Horse has an EU type-approved stationary noise level of 91 dB(A). That is Tyrol-compliant and one of the best figures among the motorcycles in this test series. Riders traveling through Tyrol face no restrictions with the Pursuit on the regulated road sections.

Price and Positioning

German MSRP starts at €36,790 for the standard-audio version. For direct comparison: the Harley-Davidson Road Glide in Grand American Touring trim starts at €32,600, with a 109 hp air-cooled Milwaukee-Eight 117 VVT and a different engine character, plus a four-year warranty. The BMW K 1600 GTL starts at €29,290 with 160 hp and a six-cylinder engine, but follows a different concept. The Pursuit Dark Horse is the most technologically advanced American-built V-twin touring motorcycle.

Verdict

The Indian Pursuit Dark Horse 112 is for riders who want to take the PowerPlus 112 engine on a multi-day tour without sacrificing comfort. 181 Nm, FOX rear shock, ClimaCommand seat, more than 140 liters of storage, and 91 dB(A), Tyrol-compliant. This is the most complete package Indian Motorcycle offers. The price reflects that.
