Review Kove 450 Rally (2026)
42 hp, 30-Liter Tank, 145 kg—the Only Street-Legal Rally Bike at This Price
Kove has existed since 2017. At the 2023 Dakar, all three factory bikes reached the finish. At Dakar 2025, Kove rider Neels Theric took three stage wins in the Rally2 class. And the Kove 450 Rally is the only street-legal motorcycle on the German market combining 42 hp from a 450-class single with a 145 kg dry weight. A 49 mm KYB USD fork, 305 mm of travel, a 30-liter three-tank system, Bosch ABS, and Metzeler MC360 tires come with the package. Prices start at EUR 8,888. KSR takes over German distribution from 2026.
As of: July 17, 2026 | Model: Kove 450 Rally (2026; 449 cc single; Rally Raid/Enduro; Category A license) | Manufacturer: Kove Moto, Chengdu, China | German distributor: KSR Group from 2026 | Price in Germany: from EUR 8,888 plus ancillary charges | Stationary noise: not published | Warranty: not published
Some motorcycles need market context before they make sense. The Kove 450 Rally needs one sentence. After its first ride in 2024, Motorradonline described it as a street-legal rally bike with a genuine 42 hp—something nobody else offers. That is the positioning. No rival in Germany combines road legality, 42 hp, 145 kg dry weight, and 30 liters of fuel capacity in a rally-raid motorcycle at this price.
Kove Moto of Chengdu, China, has been active since 2017 and followed a strategy unusual among Chinese motorcycle brands: Dakar first, market second. Three Kove factory bikes started the 2023 Dakar. All three finished, in 67th, 68th, and 77th places. That was no overall triumph, but it proved the hardware could survive the world’s toughest rally. In 2025 came the next signal: Neels Theric took three Rally2 stage wins on the Kove 450 Rally. That is a different kind of proof that this is a serious entry.
42 hp From a 450: Why That Matters
The liquid-cooled 449 cc DOHC single uses an external oil cooler and Bosch EFI and produces 42 hp, or 31 kW, at 8,500 rpm in street-legal form, along with 40 Nm. Power goes through a six-speed transmission. Rivals in the 450 enduro class—the KTM 450 EXC-F, Husqvarna FE 450, and Beta RR 450 Race—produce more power in off-road specification, but they do not combine German road legality with a genuine 42 hp in homologated trim. Kove quotes around 51 hp in racing configuration, with Dakar factory engines producing more. The EU street version is limited to 42 hp, but those 42 hp are moving a motorcycle that weighs only 145 kg dry. The power-to-weight ratio works.
30 Liters and the Three-Tank System
Fuel capacity is 30 to 32 liters, divided among three separate tanks: a main tank, a frame-mounted tank beneath the passenger-seat area, and a side tank. That is factory rally-raid technology supplied as standard for road use. The seat can be removed without tools to access the air filter and battery. The instruments are designed for quick removal through a patented system, simplifying service work in the field. Kove claims more than 480 km of range. For long off-road stages, that is adding impressive utility rather than brochure theater.
The official fuel capacity listed on the type-approval document is 14 liters. That is the homologated administrative figure; the actual combined capacity of all three tanks is 30 to 32 liters.
Suspension: 49 mm KYB, 305/300 mm Travel—High Version
The High version uses a 49 mm KYB USD fork with 305 mm of front travel and a fully adjustable rear monoshock with 300 mm of travel. Those are genuine rally-raid numbers. The price is height: seat height is 960 mm. Late in the afternoon, when fatigue begins to set in, simply climbing aboard can become a challenge. The Low version, intended for shorter riders or more road-focused use, reduces suspension travel to 260 mm front and 250 mm rear. Its 910 mm seat is still tall, but five centimeters lower than the High. The High version makes sense for riders from roughly 1.85 meters; the Low from around 1.75 meters. The Pro version adds carbon-fiber components, including a carbon crankcase guard.
Braking is handled by a 290 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc with Nissin calipers. Bosch ABS can be switched off completely or disabled only at the rear. That is exactly the configuration needed off-road, where rear ABS must be defeated to allow controlled rear-wheel slip. Metzeler MC360 tires are fitted to 21/18-inch wheels. One of the most noticeable traits on the move is the stability of the front end. It builds confidence, which in turn lets the rider stay on the throttle longer. The Kove wants to race; fundamentally, it is a race replica.
145 kg: This Is a Light Motorcycle
Dry weight is 145 kg, while the type-approval document lists 155 kg ready to ride. That is light—46 kg less than, for example, the CFMoto 800MT Explore at 231 kg and 70 kg less than the Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid at 220 kg. Low mass is not unique among genuine rally motorcycles. But among street-legal motorcycles combining 42 hp, a 30-liter fuel system, and around 300 mm of suspension travel, it is unique.
KSR Distribution in 2026: What It Means
From 2026, KSR Group takes over official Kove distribution in Germany and Austria. KSR is a major Central European motorcycle importer with long experience building dealer networks for brands including Lambretta and Brixton. That is a different level of market infrastructure from a single-dealer import operation. KSR emphasizes transparent market communication, clear responsibilities, and sustainable service development. How quickly the dealer network becomes genuinely dense remains an open question, so buyers should identify the nearest authorized Kove dealer before purchasing.
Price: Dealer Offers Currently Range From EUR 8,888 to EUR 9,799
Dealer listings currently start at EUR 8,888 for Low and High versions in Bavaria and reach EUR 9,799 in Braunschweig. BSN-Racing in Bavaria lists EUR 8,999. Swiss and Italian launch pricing was around EUR 9,500. For a rally-raid motorcycle with this specification, that is not expensive. A KTM 450 EXC-F costs around EUR 11,500 and a Husqvarna FE 450 around EUR 11,000, both without the same road-legal 42 hp specification and without a factory 30-liter fuel system.
Verdict
The Kove 450 Rally has a very specific buyer profile: riders who want a street-legal rally-raid motorcycle, plan to ride TET or ACT routes, need more than 400 km of range, and understand why 42 hp in a 145 kg dry motorcycle is a serious argument. For everyone else, it is the wrong bike—too tall, too firm, too specialized. For the right target group, it is the most uncompromising offer in its category.
