Review Suzuki Hayabusa (2026)
190 hp, 299 km/h, Lithium-Ion Battery and Optimized Cruise Control – From EUR 19,390
The Hayabusa has occupied a class of its own since 1999. For MY2026, Suzuki adds a new lithium-ion battery, fine-tunes the electronics in all three riding modes, and optimizes Smart Cruise Control. The core numbers remain unchanged: 1,340 cc, 190 hp, 150 Nm, and 299 km/h. A Special Edition in Pearl Vigor Blue with the Hayabusa kanji emblem joins the lineup at EUR 19,890.
As of: April 20, 2026 | Model: Suzuki Hayabusa GSX-1300RR, in production since 1999; current third generation since MY2021 | German price: from EUR 19,390 plus ancillary charges; Special Edition EUR 19,890 | Stationary noise: 95 dB(A), exactly at the Tyrol threshold cited in the source
Concept: The Only Motorcycle Obliged to Live Up to Its Own Legend
Since January 1, 1999, the Hayabusa has existed in a category of its own. It became the motorcycle associated with the 300-km/h frontier before the industry’s voluntary 299-km/h speed limitation arrived. In 2021, the third generation returned with Euro 5 compliance, 190 hp, 150 Nm, and the most comprehensive electronics package the model had ever carried.
For MY2026, Suzuki develops the concept selectively rather than reinventing it: an ELIIY Power lithium-ion battery, refined low-rpm torque software in all riding modes, Smart Cruise Control that now remains active during quickshifter gear changes, and revised Launch Control.
Performance and character remain untouched: 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and 0–200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. The Hayabusa is not primarily a track bike. It is an exceptional hyper-tourer – concentrated performance wrapped in wind-tunnel-developed bodywork.
Engine: 1,340 cc Inline-Four, 150 Nm, 299 km/h
The 1,340 cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four remains the heart of the Hayabusa, producing 190 hp, or 140 kW, at 9,700 rpm and 150 Nm at 7,000 rpm. The engine itself is unchanged for MY2026. What changes is the software governing torque delivery from low rpm in all three riding modes – Active, Basic, and Comfort – for even more immediate response from the bottom of the rev range.
The defining impression is extraordinary flexibility. Sixth gear covers an almost absurd range of road speeds, and the engine rarely seems to run out of breath. The 150 Nm feels as though most of it is available almost from idle.
The new ELIIY Power lithium-ion battery saves weight and improves starting performance. Total ready-to-ride weight is 262 kg for the standard model and 258 kg for the Special Edition. The 20-liter tank can be emptied quickly when the available performance is used: consumption can rise to 10 L/100 km, cutting range to roughly 200 km. The two-way, two-level quickshifter is excellent, but at high speed the engine’s immense flexibility often makes shifting almost optional.
Chassis: Fully Adjustable KYB, Brembo Stylema – More Stable Than 262 kg Suggests
A fully adjustable 43 mm KYB USD fork provides 120 mm of travel, while the fully adjustable KYB rear monoshock offers 140 mm. The suspension gives the Hayabusa considerable comfort and unwavering stability. That sense of composure is present from the first mile: surprisingly compliant in normal use, yet rock-solid through fast highway curves.
The MY2021 handlebar revision moved the bars 12 mm closer to the rider and noticeably improved handling. What remains missing is electronically adjustable suspension, one of the few areas where direct rivals offer more technology.
Braking is handled by Brembo Stylema four-piston calipers on twin 320 mm front discs, with a 240 mm rear disc. The Motion Track Brake System provides cornering ABS with integral CBS functionality, while Slope Dependent Control assists braking on descents. The Brembos deliver dependable stopping power even from extreme speeds. Automatic hazard-light activation during emergency braking is standard.
Electronics: Suzuki’s Most Comprehensive S.I.R.S. Package
The Hayabusa carries the most extensive Suzuki Intelligent Ride System in the lineup: three preset plus three user-configurable riding modes; 10-level traction control plus OFF; 10-level Wheelie Control plus OFF; three-level engine-brake control; a two-level bidirectional quickshifter; three-stage Launch Control at 4,000, 6,000, or 8,000 rpm; cruise control from 31 to 200 km/h; Active Speed Limiter; cornering ABS; Hill Hold; Slope Dependent Control; adaptive brake light; Easy Start; and Low RPM Assist.
For MY2026, Smart Cruise Control remains engaged during quickshifter gear changes. Previously, shifting cancelled cruise control – an irritating detail on long highway trips. Launch Control also receives more precise response. Still missing are electronically adjustable suspension, smartphone connectivity, and cornering lights.
Ergonomics: 800 mm Seat Height, Hyper-Touring Ability, Strong Wind Protection
Seat height is 800 mm and ready-to-ride weight 262 kg. The riding position is sporty but well integrated into the motorcycle and less extreme than the aerodynamic silhouette suggests. The Hayabusa works remarkably well as a long-distance machine, with the rider sitting down inside the bike and benefiting from effective wind protection.
Passenger accommodation is compact and better suited to shorter stages. Add-on luggage can disturb the aerodynamics at very high speeds. The cockpit combines two analog round instruments – speedometer and tachometer – with a TFT display between them. There is no smartphone connection.
Heat is another reality of the concept. The large 1,340 cc inline-four inside the fully enclosed bodywork produces noticeable heat in city traffic. At normal open-road speeds, it is far less of an issue.
Special Edition 2026: Pearl Vigor Blue With Hayabusa Kanji
The 2026 Special Edition differs from the standard motorcycle only visually. It uses exclusive Pearl Vigor Blue paint with white graphics across the tank and tail, a white Hayabusa kanji emblem, a 3D SUZUKI badge, a Special Edition emblem, black trim on the 4-into-2 exhaust, a standard passenger-seat cowl, and anodized end caps and heat shields.
Weight is listed at 258 kg, 4 kg below the standard model because the passenger-seat cowl replaces the passenger seat. Mechanically, the Special Edition is identical. Price is EUR 19,890 plus ancillary charges.
Stationary Noise and the Tyrol Threshold: Right on the Line
The current Hayabusa is listed at 95 dB(A) stationary noise in the source, exactly at the Tyrol threshold it cites. Riders planning roads subject to local noise restrictions should check the precise legal wording and their registration documents before traveling.
Cost: EUR 19,390 – Still Below the Psychological EUR 20,000 Mark
At EUR 19,390, the standard Hayabusa costs EUR 590 more than the previous year’s EUR 18,800 figure. Suzuki nevertheless keeps both versions below EUR 20,000 before ancillary charges, with the Special Edition at EUR 19,890.
Direct competition at this combination of top speed, torque, touring ability, and price is limited. Compared to substantially more expensive high-performance alternatives such as the Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX and Ducati Streetfighter V4, the Hayabusa remains the most accessible route to the 299-km/h club – and the only one carrying this particular cult status. A three-year warranty is standard.
Verdict
The 2026 Hayabusa is not a revolution. It is the disciplined continuation of a concept that has worked since 1999: huge performance, comprehensive electronics, and long-distance ergonomics. The MY2026 updates target real-world usability. On a long highway trip, cruise control that stays active during quickshifter gear changes is more useful than another few horsepower.
