2026 Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT

The MT-09 Y-AMT expands Yamaha’s hyper-naked lineup with an unusual concept: the familiar 890 cc CP3 triple with 119 hp combined with Yamaha’s Automated Manual Transmission. The system automates clutch and gear changes, allowing the rider to choose between manual shifting via finger controls or a fully automatic mode. This automation comes at an additional cost of €500.

On the road, the familiar MT-09 character remains: instant throttle response, strong midrange punch, and extremely light handling. The key difference is the more relaxed riding experience in traffic and on longer rides, as the transmission shifts automatically.

Compared to the Triumph Street Triple 765, KTM 990 Duke, or Kawasaki Z900, the Yamaha stands out technically with its smooth-running triple and unique automatic concept, while the rivals remain conventionally shifted and often slightly sharper in final chassis precision. The downside of the Y-AMT version is slightly higher weight due to the servo motor handling gear changes.
