What Happened to the Street Glide Ultra

The Street Glide Ultra, FLHXU, was discontinued after the 2025 model year. Its successor in Harley-Davidson’s lineup is the Street Glide Limited, FLHXS—not as a technical upgrade of an existing model, but as a complete redesign.

The most important difference is that the Street Glide Limited is around 11 kg lighter than the Ultra Limited, uses the Milwaukee-Eight VVT 117 instead of the Milwaukee-Eight 114, gets a new 12.3-inch Skyline OS display instead of the 6.5-inch Boom! Box display, a new Grand Tour-Pak with more luggage capacity, and a 200-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system instead of the previous 100-watt setup.

If you knew the Ultra Limited and want to buy its modern equivalent today, the Street Glide Limited is where you go.

Engine: Milwaukee-Eight VVT 117—Variable Valve Timing in a Production Tourer for the First Time

1,923 cc, air-, oil-, and liquid-cooled cylinder heads, VVT Variable Valve Timing, previously available only on CVO models, 106 hp at 4,600 rpm, 178 Nm / 131 lb-ft at 3,250 rpm, six-speed transmission, belt drive.

Variable Valve Timing is the VVT 117’s most important technical feature. It broadens the usable rev range, smooths throttle response at low engine speeds, and increases midrange performance.

Compared with the previous Ultra Limited’s M8 114 engine, torque increases by 7 percent and power by 14 percent.

Fuel consumption is approximately 5.7–6.1 L/100 km. The 22.7-liter fuel tank provides a range of around 370 km.

Weight: Around 11 kg Less Than the Ultra Limited

The Street Glide Limited weighs approximately 381 kg / 839 lb ready to ride—around 11 kg less than the previous Ultra Limited.

That reduction does not come from one single component, but from a systematic weight-reduction program: new 10-spoke alloy wheels, whose 10 spokes divide into 20 at the rim, revised suspension, new body panels, and a new Grand Tour-Pak.

The result is noticeable. At low speeds and while maneuvering, the Street Glide Limited feels more direct and better balanced than its predecessor. For riders under approximately 1.75 meters tall, that is a significant difference.

Suspension: SHOWA Upgrade Front and Rear

Up front is a new SHOWA fork with improved damping characteristics. At the rear are SHOWA shocks calibrated for a fully loaded motorcycle.

The suspension revision falls squarely into the touring-optimization category. It is not designed for maximum cornering speed, but for comfort over a 400 km day.

Spring stiffness is not electronically adjustable—that remains reserved for CVO models.

The braking package includes a combined braking system, Cornering ABS, C-ABS, Cornering TCS, Cornering Drag-Torque Slip Control, C-DSCS, electronically linked brake-force distribution, C-ELB, Hill Hold, and TPMS.

Ergonomics: Batwing Fairing, 4-Inch-Taller Windshield, New Seats

Seat height is approximately 690 mm. There are floorboards, a touring handlebar, heel shifter, and adjustable brake lever.

The Batwing fairing was redesigned using Computational Fluid Dynamics to reduce helmet turbulence and create cleaner airflow around the rider. The windshield is approximately 4 inches / 10 cm taller than on the standard Street Glide, providing substantially better wind protection for highway riding.

Adjustable air deflectors in the lower fairing can be opened in high ambient temperatures to direct engine heat away from the rider.

There are new seats for rider and passenger, heated seats with independent adjustment through buttons integrated into the seat, heated grips, and connections beneath the seat for Harley-Davidson heated riding gear.

Skyline OS and Infotainment

A 12.3-inch Skyline OS touchscreen comes standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay via Wi-Fi, OTA Over-the-Air updates, Bluetooth, integrated GPS navigation, USB-C charging, and a smartphone storage compartment beneath the dashboard.

The system can be operated entirely through the left thumb control, so there is no need to use the touchscreen while riding.

Skyline OS is a completely new generation compared with the Ultra Limited’s Boom! Box GTS: larger display, Apple CarPlay, OTA update capability, and broader app support.

There are four riding modes: Road, Sport, Rain, and Custom.

Rockford Fosgate Audio: 200 W, Four 6.5-Inch Speakers

A four-channel amplifier delivers 50 watts per channel to four 6.5-inch speakers—two in the Batwing fairing and two in the Grand Tour-Pak.

That is twice the output of the previous Ultra Limited’s Boom! Box system.

At higher cruising speeds and with the corresponding wind noise, 200 watts is the minimum level for clearly audible music. Rockford Fosgate is an established name in this class, with proven sound quality at motorcycle speeds.

Grand Tour-Pak: New Design, 2.4 Cubic Feet of Storage

The new Grand Tour-Pak is the most visible design update compared with the predecessor. It gets integrated speaker housings, flush-mounted LED lighting, a 12-volt charging port, passenger backrest, and redesigned luggage rack.

Capacity is 2.4 cubic feet, approximately 68 liters. Combined with the side cases and new fairing storage compartments, total luggage capacity is approximately 5.1 cubic feet / 144 liters.

That is enough for two full-face helmets plus sufficient luggage for a week-long two-up trip.

Price, Equipment Lines, and Tyrol

Prices start at €32,900 in Dark Billiard Gray with Chrome Trim, plus €650 transportation. Black Trim costs an additional €1,200.

Special paint schemes—Vivid Black, White Onyx Pearl, Iron Horse Metallic, Brilliant Red, Olive Steel/Vivid Black, Purple Abyss/Vivid Black—range from no surcharge to an additional €2,000. A Liberty Edition in Midnight Ember is available as a special edition. A four-year warranty is included.

That represents a substantial price increase over the 2025 Ultra Limited, but it also reflects the technological overhaul: VVT, new operating system, new audio system, and lower weight.

Confirm stationary noise with the dealer against Tyrol’s 95 dB(A) limit.

The Indian Pursuit Dark Horse 112, from €33,390 with a liquid-cooled engine producing 181 Nm and a FOX shock, is the most direct technical competitor.

Verdict

The 2026 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Limited is the most comprehensive renewal in Harley-Davidson’s touring history in years.

Variable Valve Timing, 11 kg less weight, new infotainment, new audio system, new top case.

If you knew the Ultra Limited, you now buy the Limited—and get a significantly better motorcycle.
