Review Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP (2026)
Öhlins Spool-Valve, Brembo Stylema R, Akrapovič Titanium—the Complete Supersport Package
The Fireblade SP is not simply a more expensive Fireblade—it is the version for which Honda has selected the best available production technology at every chassis-relevant point. The engine is identical to the base model: 217 hp, Twin TBW, titanium connecting rods. SP-exclusive: Öhlins S-EC3.0 (SV) NPX fork and Öhlins TTX36 (SV) shock with Spool-Valve technology; Brembo Stylema R with improved fade resistance; Akrapovič titanium muffler with special valve; Brembo front master cylinder and brake lever. 201 kg fully fueled. €30,309 including destination charges.
As of: April 13, 2026 | Tested model: Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP (2026) | Price: €30,309
Engine: Identical to the Base Model—217 hp, Twin TBW, Akrapovič Titanium Muffler With Special Valve Adds Character
999 cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled inline-four, 16 valves, PGM-FI. Output is 159.5 kW / 217 hp at 14,000 rpm, with 113 Nm at 12,000 rpm—identical to the base Fireblade. Compression ratio is 13.6:1. Titanium connecting rods, forged A2618 aluminum pistons using RC213V material. Twin Throttle By Wire with separate control for each cylinder pair.
A slipper clutch comes standard. A three-level Quickshifter with blipper is standard. Launch Control is standard. A lithium-ion battery is standard.
SP-exclusive is the jointly developed Akrapovič titanium muffler, using titanium for low weight and optimum mass centralization. A special valve in the muffler increases torque at lower rpm and power at the top end. The base engine itself remains identical, but the Akrapovič system adds a noticeable layer to its character.
The exhaust note rises linearly with engine speed. Honda describes it as the sound of a World Superbike machine.
Stationary noise is 95 dB(A)—exactly at Tyrol’s 95 dB(A) riding-ban threshold.
Suspension: Öhlins S-EC3.0 (SV) NPX + TTX36 (SV) With Spool-Valve—not Merely Electronically Adjustable, but Technologically Different
The SP suspension is the decisive difference from the base model—and the distinction is not simply the brand name, but the technology.
The fork is a 43 mm Öhlins S-EC3.0 (SV) NPX with a pressurized damping system, NPX—Non Pressurized X—electronic adjustment, Spool-Valve technology, and 125 mm of travel.
At the rear is an Öhlins TTX36 (SV) shock, electronically adjustable, with Spool-Valve technology and 143 mm of travel.
Spool-Valve technology means the damping element uses a shimless sliding-spool concept instead of conventional shim stacks. The result is lower internal friction, more precise response to small road-surface irregularities, and finer electronic control.
The base Fireblade has very good SHOWA suspension. The SP takes the quality to the next level.
Up front are dual 330 mm discs with radially mounted Brembo Stylema R four-piston monobloc calipers. The “R” identifies a revised version of the Stylema with additional resistance to thermal fade and improved cooling-fin geometry.
Brembo also supplies the front master cylinder and brake lever, creating a fully integrated braking system from a single manufacturer.
At the rear is a Brembo two-piston caliper with a 220 mm disc.
Three-level Cornering ABS—Race, Track, Standard—and a 6-axis IMU come standard. HESD is electronically adjustable through three levels.
Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street RS11 tires are standard.
Ergonomics: 830 mm Seat Height, Racing Position, Öhlins Display for Suspension Configuration—Identical to Base, but With More Setup Options
Seat height is 830 mm, identical to the base model. The riding position is extreme and race-focused, with low clip-ons and maximum forward lean.
On the SP, the 5-inch TFT provides complete Öhlins suspension configuration through the display. Spring preload, rebound, and compression damping can be adjusted electronically front and rear, including automatic calculation of the recommended spring preload after entering rider weight.
2026 SP colors are Grand Prix Red, CBR Tricolour, and black.
The SP Carbon Edition gets a full carbon-fiber fairing, is limited to 300 examples in Europe, and carries an individually numbered aluminum plaque. It is available only in black.
Fuel capacity is 16.1 liters. Range is approximately 280 km at around 5.8 L/100 km.
Wheelbase is 1,455 mm, 5 mm longer than the base model’s 1,450 mm.
Fully fueled weight is 201 kg, 1 kg more than the base model despite the Akrapovič titanium exhaust—the Öhlins package is slightly heavier than the SHOWA components.
The winglets have a new shape for 2026, reducing yaw moment by 10 percent while maintaining the same downforce.
Handling: Spool-Valve on the Racetrack—the Difference From the Base Model Becomes More Noticeable as the Pace Increases
In everyday street riding, the difference between the base model and SP is subtler than the price gap might suggest.
The SP’s Öhlins suspension responds more sensitively and allows more precise adjustment to the individual rider. But the difference becomes fully apparent only at higher speeds, with a more aggressive riding style, and on the racetrack.
The Brembo Stylema R calipers offer greater resistance to fade during repeated braking from high speed than the base model’s Stylema units—a genuine difference on the racetrack.
The Akrapovič exhaust does more than signal greater ambition acoustically. Its special valve also produces a slightly altered torque curve.
Who buys the SP?
Riders who use the Fireblade on the racetrack and do not want to invest in Öhlins, Brembo, and Akrapovič components afterward.
The approximately €4,000 premium over the base model buys components whose new replacement cost would be significantly higher if retrofitted individually.
The SP is the more attractive proposition for the ambitious rider.
Equipment: What the SP Adds Over the Base—and What Both Share
SP-exclusive equipment includes the electronically adjustable Öhlins S-EC3.0 (SV) NPX fork with Spool-Valve technology, electronically adjustable Öhlins TTX36 (SV) rear shock with Spool-Valve technology, Brembo Stylema R four-piston monobloc calipers with improved fade resistance, Brembo front master cylinder and brake lever, and an Akrapovič titanium muffler with special valve.
Shared with the base model are the engine—217 hp, Twin TBW, titanium connecting rods, A2618 pistons—the chassis geometry with aluminum twin-spar frame and longer swingarm, dual 330 mm front discs of identical diameter, 6-axis IMU, three-level Cornering ABS, HSTC, Wheelie Control, Rear-Lift Control, Launch Control, three-level HESD, three-level Quickshifter, five riding modes, 5-inch TFT, winglets, Bridgestone RS11 tires, lithium-ion battery, seat height, and fuel capacity.
Costs: €30,309—the Premium Over the Base Model Buys Öhlins, Brembo Stylema R, and Akrapovič
The premium over the base Fireblade is approximately €4,000.
The competition includes the Ducati Panigale V4 S at around €36,000, with Öhlins front and rear, Brembo brakes, and 214 hp. The Aprilia RSV4 Factory costs approximately €27,050, with Öhlins front and rear, Brembo brakes, and 220 hp. The BMW M 1000 RR starts at €36,300 plus additional charges.
That puts the CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP at the same price level as its direct supersport competitors with top-level suspension equipment.
The SP Carbon Edition gets a full carbon-fiber fairing, is limited to 300 examples in Europe, and carries an individually numbered aluminum plaque. Price is available from the dealer, with market data indicating approximately €32,000.
The standard warranty is two years with unlimited mileage. A paid extension through Honda GarantiePlus is available.
Verdict
The Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP is the version of the Fireblade built for the racetrack—without compromises on the road.
Öhlins Spool-Valve electronic suspension, Brembo Stylema R, Akrapovič—for a little over €30,000.
Anyone hesitating over the approximately €4,000 premium compared with the base model is making a mistake: retrofitting these components individually costs more.
If you want the Fireblade as uncompromising as possible, buy the SP.
