Review Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin Adventure Sports (2026)
More Fuel, More Fairing, More Road—the Touring Africa Twin
The Adventure Sports is the Africa Twin for riders who cover longer distances: a 24.8-liter fuel tank for more than 500 km of range, larger bodywork with an adjustable windshield, a 19-inch front wheel with road-oriented tires, heated grips standard, and SHOWA EERA electronic suspension standard. Engine and electronics are identical to the base model: 102 hp, 6-axis IMU, seven-level HSTC, Apple CarPlay. From €20,119.
As of: April 10, 2026 | Tested model: Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT+ES (2026) | Prices: Adventure Sports ES, manual: €20,119 / Adventure Sports DCT+ES: €21,239 including destination charges
Adventure Sports vs. Base Model: 19-Inch Front Wheel, Six Liters More Fuel, EERA Standard—These Are the Real Differences
The Africa Twin Adventure Sports is not simply another equipment version. It differs fundamentally from the base model in three chassis-related areas.
First, it has a 19-inch front wheel with a 110/80-19 tire instead of the base model’s 21-inch wheel with a 90/90-21 tire. That means a wider tire, more road-oriented tire choices, slightly less off-road feel, but better high-speed stability on pavement.
Second, it has a 24.8-liter fuel tank instead of the base model’s 18.8 liters—six liters more, approximately 120 km of additional range, and more than 500 km between fuel stops.
Third, EERA electronic suspension comes standard, whereas on the base Africa Twin, EERA is available only as an additional option with DCT.
Other differences include larger front bodywork for improved wind protection and a five-position adjustable windshield on the Adventure Sports compared with the simpler windshield on the base model.
Heated grips are standard on the Adventure Sports and optional on the base model. A 12-volt accessory socket is standard.
Suspension travel is shorter. The Adventure Sports has less travel than the base model’s 230 mm front and 220 mm rear because it is more compactly configured for road use.
What the Adventure Sports shares with the regular Africa Twin is the identical engine, identical electronics, and identical cockpit.
Engine: Identical to the Base Model—102 hp, 112 Nm, DCT Standard, Apple CarPlay
1,084 cc, liquid-cooled SOHC parallel twin, 270-degree crankpin offset, PGM-FI, Euro 5+. Output is 75 kW / 102 hp at 7,500 rpm, with 112 Nm at 5,500 rpm.
The 2024 model year brought a successful update: 7 Nm more torque, available 750 rpm earlier than on the predecessor, along with new intake ports and an optimized airbox. There is also an ECV valve in the exhaust.
A six-speed DCT comes standard on the Adventure Sports DCT version and can operate fully automatically or manually through shift paddles. The shift programs are D, S1, S2, and S3.
A foot shifter and slipper clutch come standard, as does cruise control.
Fuel consumption is approximately 4.9 L/100 km. With the 24.8-liter tank, range exceeds 500 km.
There are four riding modes: Urban, Tour, Gravel, and Off-Road, plus a User mode.
The 6-axis IMU controls seven-level HSTC, three-level Wheelie Control, and Cornering ABS. Rear-wheel ABS can be switched off.
A 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard.
An immobilizer, USB charging port, and 12-volt socket are all included.
Suspension & EERA: SHOWA Electronic Suspension Standard, 19-Inch Front Wheel, Tubeless Wire-Spoke Wheels
SHOWA EERA, Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment, comes standard on the Adventure Sports. That is its biggest comfort advantage over the base Africa Twin, where EERA is available only as an extra-cost option.
EERA is a semi-active electronic suspension system with four modes: Mid, Hard, Soft, and Offroad.
It adjusts damping in real time according to the selected riding mode and load. Spring preload and damping can be configured separately.
There is a SHOWA USD fork up front and a Pro-Link aluminum swingarm at the rear.
Braking comes from dual 310 mm front discs with radial four-piston calipers and a 256 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper.
Cornering ABS comes standard, and rear-wheel ABS can be switched off.
The wheels are tubeless aluminum rims with stainless-steel spokes, standard since MY2024, measuring 19 inches front and 18 inches rear.
Tire sizes are 110/80-19 front and 150/70-18 rear.
The 19-inch front wheel is the Adventure Sports’ central handling compromise: less off-road feel than the base model’s 21-inch wheel, but better suited to long pavement stages and with a wider choice of tires.
If you regularly ride more demanding off-road terrain, choose the base Africa Twin.
If you primarily tour on pavement and occasionally ride off-road, choose the Adventure Sports.
Ergonomics: 850/870 mm Seat Height, Five-Position Windshield, Heated Grips—Optimized for Long Distances
Seat height is adjustable between 850 mm in the low position and 870 mm in the high position.
Fully fueled weight is 253 kg for the DCT+ES version.
The larger front fairing provides improved wind protection at highway speeds. The windshield adjusts through five positions, ranging from maximum forward visibility to maximum wind protection. The base model uses a simpler windshield.
Heated grips come standard, whereas they are optional on the base model.
A 12-volt socket, cruise control, and USB charging port are also standard.
The wide handlebar provides a comfortable touring riding position.
Rally footpegs, engine protection, and radiator guard also come standard.
Passenger capability is good, with a generously sized seat and sturdy grab handles. The Africa Twin Adventure Sports is well suited to multi-day two-up touring.
There are no technical changes for MY2026. The only updates are new colors and graphics: Matt Iridium Gray Metallic is new, while Pearl Glare White remains.
Stationary noise is 91 dB(A)—no Tyrol riding ban.
Handling: 253 kg, EERA, More Than 500 km of Range—the Adventure Sports for Long-Distance Tourers With Off-Road Ambitions
A fully fueled weight of 253 kg is the price you pay for the 24.8-liter tank, larger bodywork, and EERA.
That is noticeably more than the 226 kg base model, particularly when maneuvering and riding off-road at walking pace.
In return, the EERA suspension compensates for part of the additional weight through real-time damping adjustment.
At high highway speeds and on poor roads, the Adventure Sports is noticeably more stable than the base model.
The large fairing shields the rider so effectively that 200 km highway stages are possible without fatigue. According to community reports, daily distances well beyond 500 km are realistic.
DCT and cruise control further reduce rider workload.
Who would be better off with the Adventure Sports? Riders who primarily tour on pavement and gravel while wanting maximum range, the best wind protection, and the most comfortable suspension.
Who would be better off with the base model? Riders who tackle serious off-road sections and prefer the narrow 21-inch front wheel.
Direct comparisons include the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, starting at €22,390 plus additional charges, and the KTM 1390 Super Adventure S, starting at €21,494, with more sporting character but less emphasis on the long-distance luggage concept.
Costs: From €21,239 DCT+ES—Fully Equipped Long-Distance Tourer With Genuine Off-Road Potential
The Adventure Sports DCT+ES costs €21,239 including destination charges.
Included in the price are SHOWA EERA electronic suspension, DCT, heated grips, cruise control, Apple CarPlay, 12-volt socket, engine protection, radiator guard, rally footpegs, and the 24.8-liter fuel tank.
In fully equipped form, the Adventure Sports offers a competitive price-to-equipment ratio.
The standard warranty is two years with unlimited mileage. A paid extension through Honda GarantiePlus is available.
One note: the factory warranty on the TFT display, MID, for MY2020–2023 motorcycles has been extended to ten years. The issue was corrected from MY2024 onward.
Verdict
The Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin Adventure Sports is the Africa Twin for riders who primarily tour and occasionally ride off-road—not the other way around.
A 24.8-liter fuel tank, EERA standard, large fairing, heated grips, and a 19-inch front wheel make this a complete long-distance package.
If you primarily ride off-road, buy the base Africa Twin.
If you primarily tour but want to retain off-road capability, buy the Adventure Sports.
