What’s New for 2026

The 2026 Challenger Dark Horse 112 update is cosmetic. The new Black Crystal with Black Metallic and Championship Gold Accent color scheme is the highlight—a deep black with gold detailing that Indian is also introducing on other PowerPlus-family models. Chalk with Black Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Sunset Red Smoke, and Black Smoke are also offered. New graphics complete the visual update. Engine, chassis, electronics, and equipment are technically identical to the 2025 model.

The PowerPlus 112: A Racing Engine for the Street

1,834 cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, four valves per cylinder, 126 hp and 181 Nm at 3,600 rpm, twin 52 mm throttle bodies, 11.4:1 compression, and cylinder deactivation. The PowerPlus 112 is not a traditional cruiser engine built around massive torque at very low rpm. It is a modern, high-revving, liquid-cooled V-twin with overhead camshafts.

Peak torque arrives at 3,600 rpm. The engine pulls to 5,500 rpm with consistent power delivery. The result is sustained acceleration across the rev range—Indian itself describes it as “unmatched passing power in every gear without downshifting.”

The same engine platform powered Indian’s race bike to the 2024 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers championship, the brand’s third title overall after 2022 and 2023. That is a legitimate racing credential. Cylinder deactivation helps reduce fuel use in city traffic. There is a six-speed transmission and belt final drive. Fuel consumption is approximately 6.5 L/100 km; with a 22.7-liter tank, range is around 300 km.

Dark Horse vs. Limited: A Question of Finish

The Challenger is available in two versions: Limited, with chrome accents and a broader color palette, and Dark Horse, with an all-black finish and more restrained appearance. Technically, the two are identical: engine, chassis, electronics, brakes, and equipment are the same. If you want chrome, buy the Limited. If you want black and see the entire motorcycle as one monolithic dark statement, buy the Dark Horse.

SmartLean and the Rider-Assist Package

For 2026, the PowerPlus 112 comes standard with the full rider-assist package. SmartLean provides lean-sensitive ABS and traction control that factor lean angle into their intervention. Blind Spot Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Tailgate Warning, Bike Hold Control for automatic brake assistance on inclines, and electronically linked braking are also included. It is one of the most comprehensive safety packages in the bagger class—and on a 388 kg motorcycle, this is not luxury equipment but genuinely useful safety technology.

Chassis: 43 mm USD Fork, Brembo, Electronic Rear Shock

Up front is a 43 mm upside-down fork with 130 mm of travel. At the rear is a monoshock with electronically adjustable spring preload and 114 mm of travel. The electronic preload adjustment allows the setup to be adapted for solo riding, two-up riding with luggage, or touring through handlebar controls. Radially mounted Brembo front calipers work with dual 320 mm semi-floating discs, while a 298 mm disc handles the rear. The chassis is designed around the Challenger’s 388 kg weight and is well calibrated. You feel the mass during fast cornering, but far less on highway stretches.

Equipment: Everything From the Factory

The Challenger Dark Horse 112 is a fully equipped touring motorcycle. Standard equipment includes remote-locking hard saddlebags, an electrically adjustable windshield with 100 mm of travel, heated grips, heated seat, adjustable fairing air vents, a 7-inch RIDE COMMAND touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, GPS navigation, and Bluetooth, TPMS, keyless ignition, USB, and a two-up Gunfighter seat. A 600-watt PowerBand audio system is optional; the standard system delivers 200 watts. The 7-inch display is the largest touchscreen in this motorcycle class and can be operated with gloves or through the handlebar controls.

Price and Positioning

Pricing starts at €34,390 with a two-year manufacturer warranty. The direct rival is the Harley-Davidson Street Glide in the Grand American Touring category, starting at €32,600 with the 109 hp Milwaukee-Eight 117 VVT. Its engine has a different calibration, with more torque at the very bottom of the rev range, and is air-cooled. With 181 Nm at 3,600 rpm, liquid cooling, and its racing-engine heritage, the Challenger delivers a different riding experience—at a different price. The BMW K 1600 B, starting at around €30,000 with 160 hp and a six-cylinder engine, is the European alternative.

Verdict

The Indian Challenger Dark Horse 112 is the sportiest bagger in the American cruiser segment. PowerPlus 112, racing-engine heritage, a complete rider-assist package, 7-inch RIDE COMMAND, Brembo brakes, an electronically adjustable rear shock, and full touring equipment from the factory. For riders who want a liquid-cooled, high-revving American bagger, there is no more convincing offering in this class.
