The Super Chief Limited and Super Chief Dark Horse use the same Thunderstroke 116 engine with 156 Nm at 2,900 rpm, the same chassis with a 46 mm telescopic fork and 75 mm of rear suspension travel, the same brakes with a 300 mm front disc and four-piston caliper, the same wire-spoke wheels, the same equipment package with saddlebags, windshield, floorboards, passenger seat, and RIDE COMMAND, and the same price.

What separates them is the finish. The Limited has chrome engine covers, a chrome exhaust, chrome-accented components, and a broader, brighter color palette. The Dark Horse uses black finishes on the engine and exhaust and a darker color range.

If you prefer the classic American touring-cruiser look with chrome, buy the Limited. If you prefer the darker, more restrained finish, buy the Dark Horse. That is the straightforward choice between them.

What’s New for 2026

The new Chalk color—a light, slightly warm off-white—is the most distinctive 2026 update for the Super Chief Limited. It is the lightest color Indian has ever offered on the Super Chief and works particularly well with the Limited’s chrome finish. The tank graphics have also been revised. Technically, the motorcycle is identical to the 2025 model.

Engine: Thunderstroke 116—156 Nm, Touring Character

1,890 cc, air- and oil-cooled, OHV, 88 hp / 66 kW, 156 Nm at 2,900 rpm, Ride-by-Wire, rear-cylinder deactivation, six-speed transmission, belt final drive, Euro 5+. The engine is completely identical to the Super Chief Dark Horse. Fuel consumption is approximately 4.5–5.0 L/100 km; the 15.1-liter tank provides around 280 km of range.

Chassis, Brakes, and Wire-Spoke Wheels

A 46 mm telescopic fork provides 132 mm of travel and wears fork covers. At the rear are twin shocks with adjustable spring preload, 75 mm of travel, and shock covers. Forty-spoke wire wheels measure 16 inches front and rear and carry Metzeler Cruisetec tires. Braking comes from a 300 mm front disc with a four-piston caliper and a 300 mm rear disc with a two-piston caliper. ABS and linked braking come standard. Everything is identical to the Dark Horse.

Ergonomics: Touring Position, Floorboards, 665 mm

Seat height is 665 mm, wheelbase 1,626 mm, and the Super Chief comes with a touring handlebar, floorboards, passenger seat, passenger footpegs and grab handles, plus a quick-release windshield as standard. Ergonomically, the Limited is completely identical to the Dark Horse. The chrome finish changes nothing about seat height, handlebar position, or floorboard geometry. On long highway stages, the Super Chief’s floorboard setup provides one of the more relaxed leg positions in the Chief family.

Equipment: Identical to the Dark Horse

Leather saddlebags, removable and lockable, come standard; on the Limited they use a lighter, more traditional leather treatment rather than the Dark Horse’s black leather. Also standard are the quick-release windshield, 4-inch RIDE COMMAND touchscreen with GPS and Bluetooth, keyless ignition, cruise control, ABS, rear-cylinder deactivation, USB, LED lighting, and headlight nacelle. The Limited replaces the Dark Horse’s blacked-out engine covers and exhaust with chrome components.

Price and Positioning

Prices start at €24,590—the same entry price as the Super Chief Dark Horse. The warranty is two years. This is the rare case where Limited and Dark Horse are offered at exactly the same price, making the choice genuinely one of style with no premium for chrome. The direct comparison is the Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic at €28,270 with a four-year warranty: more expensive, but with a Milwaukee-Eight 117, a strong dealer network, and twice the warranty coverage. The Super Chief Limited’s main advantage over the Heritage Classic is Indian design heritage and Thunderstroke character.

Verdict

The 2026 Indian Super Chief Limited is for riders who want the Super Chief in its classic, chrome-finished form. It is completely identical to the Dark Horse; the finish is the only difference. If chrome is an aesthetic commitment to American cruiser heritage, buy the Limited. If you prefer the dark, restrained look, buy the Dark Horse. Both cost the same.
