Review KTM 790 Adventure (2026)

The Sporty Twin All-Rounder—95 hp, 20-Liter Tank, Demo Mode, 4-Year Warranty

The 790 Adventure is what KTM calls “Adventure for everyone”—and that does not mean tame, but accessible. It delivers 95 hp from a 799 cc parallel twin, 88 Nm, 21/18-inch wire-spoke wheels, and a 20-liter tank for more than 400 km of range. Demo Mode lets you try all software options free for the first 1,500 km. Warranty coverage extends to four years. It is A2-compatible and built by CFMOTO in China.

Engine: 95 hp, 88 Nm, LC8c Parallel Twin—Strong Torque, Low Fuel Consumption

The 799 cc LC8c parallel twin produces 95 hp and 88 Nm of torque. That is substantial output for a middleweight adventure bike, while power delivery is regarded as precise and easy to meter across the rev range. The engine is strong and fuel consumption remains low. For A2 riders, the 790 Adventure is available in a restricted version. The electronics are already designed around the full-power A-license configuration and can be unlocked where applicable. A PASC slipper clutch is standard, as are Ride-by-Wire and Euro 5 compliance. Service intervals are 15,000 km.

Since the model returned in 2023, the 790 Adventure has been manufactured by CFMOTO in China. That is the straightforward answer to the question of production origin. KTM entrusts CFMOTO with production of the 790 parallel twin for Europe after the engine was revised for Euro 5. CFMOTO manufacturing quality is generally regarded as good within the community, but it is information buyers should know. Quickshifter and Rally mode are optional software packages that can initially be tested free for 1,500 km through Demo Mode.

Demo Mode: Try Every Software Option Free for 1,500 km—a Smart Buying Concept

The 790 Adventure is delivered with Demo Mode, which unlocks all optional software packages for the first 1,500 km, including the quickshifter, Rally mode, and additional rider-assistance functions. After 1,500 km, Demo Mode switches itself off automatically. Riders who want to keep individual features can then purchase them. It is a sensible concept: instead of buying equipment blindly, you know after 1,500 km of real-world riding which packages genuinely support your riding style. For many riders, the quickshifter will be the obvious upgrade; Rally mode and its expanded off-road settings are aimed at more ambitious dirt riders.

Suspension: Split-Function 43 mm WP APEX, 200 mm Travel, Steering Damper Standard—Sport-Enduro Level

The 43 mm WP APEX USD fork uses a split-function design, with rebound on one side and compression on the other. That allows the two parameters to be adjusted independently without influencing one another. Travel is 200 mm. The rear shock also provides 200 mm and offers spring-preload adjustment. The setup is therefore suitable for long touring stages as well as gravel roads. Notably, a steering damper comes standard, stabilizing the front end over rough surfaces and at higher speeds without extra effort or cost.

Braking is handled by twin 320 mm front discs with radially mounted four-piston calipers—sport-enduro hardware as standard. A single disc works at the rear. The ABS is configured for off-road use: when Offroad mode or the optional Rally mode is selected, Offroad ABS activates automatically. Front-wheel ABS intervention is reduced and rear-wheel ABS is disabled completely, allowing the rider to slide the rear under braking in a controlled manner. The 21/18-inch wire-spoke wheels come with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, genuine dual-sport rubber designed for both asphalt and loose surfaces.

Ergonomics and Electronics: Adjustable 840–860 mm Seat, 6D Sensor, 20-Liter Tank, TFT With Connect Box

The seat can be adjusted between 840 and 860 mm, a useful range that accommodates both shorter and taller riders. KTM quotes 199 kg, while fully fueled weight has been measured at 216 kg. The 20-liter tank is claimed to provide more than 400 km of range, a plausible figure with realistic consumption of around 4 to 5 L/100 km. For a middleweight adventure bike, that is excellent.

A 6D sensor manages cornering ABS, Motorcycle Traction Control, and Wheelie Control. The TFT display works with a standard Connect Box for smartphone integration, including navigation, music, and phone functions. A USB charging port is standard. The two-piece seat is intended to improve passenger comfort, while KTM PowerParts offers a one-piece Rally seat for extended off-road use. Stationary noise is 87 dB(A), so Tyrol restrictions are not an issue.

Handling: Sporty but Accessible—One of the Best Middleweight Adventure Bikes for Price and Performance

The 790 Adventure sits between the smaller, less expensive 390 Adventure R and the larger, more expensive 890 Adventure. Compared with the 390 single, the parallel twin’s decisive advantage is torque at low and medium rpm without the need to chase revs. You do not have to shift constantly, so touring is more relaxed. And when you want it, 95 hp is available. The 790 is one of the sportiest middleweight adventure bikes, quick on the road and in the dirt while still offering enough comfort for longer connecting stages.

Direct rivals include the Honda XL750 Transalp E-Clutch at EUR 11,749 with 91.8 hp, 210 kg, Showa suspension, and a 21-inch front wheel; the Yamaha Ténéré 700 from EUR 11,624 with 73 hp, a 21-inch front, less weight, and fewer electronics; and the Aprilia Tuareg 660 at EUR 11,999 with 80 hp and a similar concept. The KTM 790 Adventure combines the highest output in this group with the most extensive electronics at a competitive price.

Cost: EUR 12,485 Including Destination—Highest Output in the Segment, Competitive Price

KTM offers up to four years of Premium Manufacturer Warranty from MY2025 across its Street range, provided scheduled servicing is carried out by an authorized KTM dealer. The 15,000 km service interval keeps running costs within reasonable limits. Optional software packages such as the quickshifter and Rally mode become paid upgrades after Demo Mode expires; current prices should be confirmed with the dealer.

Verdict

The KTM 790 Adventure is one of the sportiest middleweight adventure bikes on the market—and one of the few where the electronics are not merely specification-sheet decoration but make a noticeable difference in use. Ninety-five horsepower, 88 Nm, split-function WP APEX suspension, a steering damper, Offroad ABS, a 20-liter tank, Demo Mode, and up to four years of warranty make a convincing package. If you want to ride equally fast on asphalt and gravel, this is the bike to buy.
